Our carefully planned history curriculum ensures continuity and progression of learning that deepens children's understanding of key historical concepts and enables children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Alongside the knowledge of people and events from a range of historical periods, we aim to develop a passion for history and enthusiastic engagement in learning that develops children's curiosity about the past and an understanding of how and why people interpret the past in different ways. A respect for historical evidence and the ability to make critical use of it supports children's explanations and judgements. The ability to discuss, debate and evaluate the past enables children to think critically about history and communicate ideas confidently in a range of ways.

Cross-curricular links are capitalised on in order to give purpose and context to the knowledge, concepts and skills taught. Sequences of lessons build on prior learning, make meaningful connections within and across subjects and enable children to know more and remember more over time. High-quality educational experiences, an integral part of the history curriculum, develop children's confidence and deepen their understanding.
